December 7, 1939 - May 2, 2023. Beloved husband to Kathy Garcia; dear father to Anthony (Courtney Leyva), Rachel (Bryce Zucker), dear grandfather to Carter and Vivienne, dear son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, friend, colleague and teacher.

A brilliant and beloved Classics professor at Washington University in St. Louis for 53 years, George is remembered for his quick wit, meticulous mind, and gregarious persona. He loved reading, talking baseball and getting to know new people. His dedication to mentoring and advising students made him a favorite on campus for years. A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on June 2, 2023 in Umrath Lounge at Washington University in St Louis. A private service will be held in San Diego.
