Obituary For Elizabeth Ann Johnson

Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Johnson, 87, of San Diego, California, passed away at her home on May 29, 2023. Liz died, after a short illness, due to heart failure, with her daughter and son-in-law at her side. Liz had just recently enjoyed a multiple-day visit from her son, who lives out of town, visits from old friends, and an afternoon spent outside with her dearest friends.

Liz was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 28, 1936, to Alberta and Robert Borgstede. Liz was the middle of three children, born between older brother Bob and younger sister Mary Lou. She attended and earned a degree from Elmhurst College. Liz married and subsequently divorced Irving Oliver Johnson, Jr. in Illinois where her three children were born.

Liz worked as a Credit Accountant and enjoyed playing Mexican Train and knitting hats for the homeless. Liz was an avid camper and enjoyed the outdoors. Liz loved attending sporting events with her son and the rest of her family and friends. She was a great baseball fan and enjoyed watching the Cardinals and the Padres.

Liz is survived by her daughter, Lizette R Phillips, and her husband Lee Phillips of San Diego, California. She is also survived by her son, Irving A Johnson, and his wife Brittney Johnson of Pocatello, Idaho. Liz has one grandson, Christopher L Phillips, who resides with his wife Amanda Phillips in San Diego, California. Liz is also survived by 2 nieces and 7 nephews.

Liz was predeceased by her ex-husband, her son Kurt Louis Johnson, her parents, her brother Robert Louis “Bob” Borgstede, and her sister Mary Louise Beare.

Elizabeth’s remains will be scattered per her final wishes, as allowed by local restrictions, by family members in a private ceremony at an as yet undetermined date. While no memorial or service is planned, friends are encouraged to remember Liz in their own, unique ways and to save a chair for her when they gather together in the coming months.
