Why Was Bugles Across America Started?

Bugles Across America, NFP was founded in 2000 by Tom Day, when Congress passed legislation stating that Veterans have a right to at least two uniformed military people to fold the flag and play military taps.

Normally most branches of the military, with the exception of the Marines, only pays a recording. Bugles Across America felt that they each of them deserved a beautiful and live rendition of Military Taps. This should be performed by a live bugler in recognition of the arduous and committed service that our wonderful Veterans have given. To this day they service over all in the US and continue to grow overseas.  They have over 4000 Volunteer buglers in 50 states.

For additional information on military honors (flag presentation and military taps) and the various aspects involved please visit our Veteran Military Honors section.

The Future and Service

As the years pass, the Department of Veterans Affairs predicts that within the next 10 years or less half of a million veterans will pass. Because of this, Bugles Across American are always willing and actively hiring live buglers all across the nation.

Bugler Volunteers can of any gender and there are no fees of entry to become a volunteer, however certain precautions and regulations are required.

Many funeral companies like Funerals Your Way will offer Bugles Across America’s services. The veteran needs to  be in an honorable standing while in service and will make sure that everything is in place when the day comes. The flag presentation to the next of kin and the playing of military taps is a moving aspect of a veterans funeral service.

Bugles Across America provides a valuable service to our nation’s veterans and their families by ensuring that each veteran receives the honor and dignity they deserve at their final farewell. The organization has played at over 400,000 military funerals and continues to provide this service to those who have served our country. Bugles Across America members have willingly given over two million hours of their volunteer time to our veterans and their families.

The impact of Bugles Across America’s work is immeasurable. For families and loved ones of fallen veterans, hearing a live bugle call at a military funeral can be a deeply emotional and meaningful experience. It’s a way of recognizing the veteran’s service and sacrifice and providing closure and comfort during a difficult time.

The organization’s work is also important for ensuring that the tradition of live bugle calls at military funerals is preserved for future generations. By training new volunteers and raising awareness of the importance of this tradition, Bugles Across America is helping to ensure that every veteran receives the honor they deserve.

Bugles Across America’s work is supported by donations and grants from individuals, corporations, and organizations. These funds help to cover the cost of training and certifying volunteers, as well as providing equipment and resources for buglers. The organization also offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for those interested in supporting its mission.
